David Boyer
Trained as a medical illustrator in college, I have had a pencil or pen in hand since seeing my older brother and cousin drawing superhero characters out of comic books. Since then, I've spent countless hours learning the subtle trade of placing pigment on paper.
My specialty is rendering golf landscapes and portraits in both pencil and oils. An interest in the game of golf naturally lead to focusing on the great courses throughout United States and the world. And it is the challenge of projecting the true likeness of the individual that draws me to portraiture. Outside of these more traditional endeavors, I have found photography not only a tool for collecting reference material but also an expression of those same personal artistic tendencies.
Inspiration comes from past and present artists, ranging from the intensely personal art of Egon Schiel to the refined portrait painter Nelson Shanks; from old masters such as Gilbert Stuart to new media artists like Craig Mullins. Most anything that pushes the artistic envelope or displays a deft refinement holds my attention and appreciation.
I continue to grow and learn more with each passing piece.
